Using skincare has become part of many people’s daily routine, especially for those who want to maintain healthy skin and look more confident. However, it’s not uncommon for us to feel that the skincare products we use are not delivering effective results. Have Sereni-Trees ever experienced this? Buying expensive products with high hopes, but your skin remains dull, acne-prone, or even irritated? Let’s talk about why this happens and how natural skincare alternatives can be the solution. Stay tuned!

Not Listening to Skin Needs

Everyone’s skin is unique and can change over time, especially when we enter a phase of life like menopause or certain health conditions. Many get caught up with popular trends and products without really understanding their skin’s needs. For example, dry skin needs extra hydration, while oily skin may need products that can control excess sebum. Instead of just following what’s trending, try to better understand our skin type and needs!

Natural Alternatives: Use natural oils like coconut oil that can suit various skin types. These oils not only moisturize, but also help balance the skin’s natural oil production.

Not Prioritizing Basic Skincare Steps

Many are tempted to use products with active ingredients such as retinoids or exfoliating acids without building a strong skincare foundation. Basic steps like cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen are often overlooked. But these three are the key to healthy skin! Without adequate protection and hydration, skin can become sensitive and not respond well to active products.

Natural Alternatives: Use natural facial cleansers like coconut oil to cleanse without drying, aloe vera as a moisturizer, and raspberry seed oil as a natural sunscreen that protects skin from UV rays.

Inconsistent with Routines

Consistency is key in a skincare routine. Many people don’t get the expected results because they are inconsistent or use the wrong products. Even the best products won’t be effective if used sporadically or not as directed.

Natural Alternatives: Keep using natural ingredients at home such as honey or yogurt masks regularly to see optimal results. Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help promote healthier skin.

Not Giving Products Enough Time to Work

Many expect instant results and are easily discouraged if changes are not seen within a few days. In fact, skincare, especially for issues like hyperpigmentation or wrinkles, can take weeks or even months to show noticeable results. Remember Sereni-Trees, skincare takes time to work effectively!

Natural Alternatives: A green tea mask or turmeric blend can be an option as both have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help the skin rejuvenate. Use them regularly at least once a week for better results.

Over-reliance on Products, Without Paying Attention to Lifestyle

Skincare is just one part of the whole skincare regimen. If we smoke, sleep poorly, or have a poor diet, then skincare alone won’t be enough. Our skin is a reflection of our overall body condition, so it’s important to keep it healthy from within. Keep your body healthy for glowing and healthy skin!

Natural Alternatives: Focus on a diet rich in antioxidants such as fruits and vegetables, drink enough water, and ensure adequate sleep every night. This will help repair the skin from within.

Unrealistic Expectations of Skincare Products

Skincare can improve and enhance the condition of the skin, but it cannot erase all signs of aging or perfectly repair the skin. Having realistic expectations of what the product can do is essential to avoid disappointment. Remember, nothing is instant and perfect!

Natural Alternatives: Instead of hoping for drastic changes, focus on improving skin texture and maintaining healthy skin. The use of essential oils like lavender and tea tree can help keep the skin healthy and free from minor infections.

Using Products that are Not Appropriate for Your Skin Type or Problem

Many skincare products are designed for specific purposes, such as reducing oil, treating acne, or brightening the skin. If we don’t use the right product for our skin type and specific concerns, then the results will certainly not be optimal.

Natural Alternatives: Try using natural ingredients that have proven benefits for various skin problems. For example, aloe vera for hydration, apple cider vinegar for a natural toner, and oatmeal to soothe inflamed skin.

Serenitree as a Natural Alternative Solution

Getting results from skincare is not always about finding the most expensive or popular products, but about understanding your skin’s needs and providing the right care. Incorporating natural ingredients into the routine can be an alternative that is not only effective but also kinder to the skin and the environment.

Serenitree Indonesia is a natural skincare solution that focuses not only on skin health but also on environmental sustainability. Serenitree products are formulated with natural and safe ingredients, and scientifically tested to ensure their effectiveness and safety for users. An example is the Moisturizing and Calming Body Lotion, which is designed to moisturize, soften and soothe the skin, leaving it healthier and more radiant.

This product contains a variety of natural oils, such as Sweet Almond Oil which is rich in emollients to moisturize the skin and protect skin cells from free radicals, and Sunflower Oil which is full of vitamins A, B, D, and E to maintain the skin barrier. Olive Oil also plays an important role with its antioxidant content, helping to improve skin elasticity and prevent premature signs of aging. In addition, Shea Butter, known as a natural skin moisturizer, effectively soothes dry and cracked skin. A great choice to hydrate your skin all day long!

Well, by listening to our skin and applying the appropriate treatments consistently, we can definitely achieve healthy skin without getting stuck in an endless cycle of trying new products. What are you waiting for? Let’s choose skincare wisely!

Did you know? Our skin has a protective layer that is very important to protect the skin from all pollution and free radicals. We call this layer the skin barrier. This layer is the key to glowing and healthy skin. Unfortunately, there are some things that can damage the skin barrier. But don’t worry! In this article, we will discuss what the skin barrier is, the causes of its damage, the characteristics of a damaged skin barrier, and solutions to repair it. Can we repair the damaged layer? Stay tuned to find out!

Why do we need to maintain our skin barrier?

The outermost protective layer of our skin is the skin barrier (acid mantle) which is made up of skin cells and lipids. In scientific language, this layer consists of keratinocytes, melanocytes, and langerhans cells. Usually if the keratinocytes are having problems, it will affect our skin barrier.

So, what makes this layer so important for skin health? This is because the skin barrier has various functions such as protecting the skin from UV rays, harsh chemicals, pollution, bacteria, and infections. Plus, a healthy skin barrier will maintain moisture and hydration in our skin. Automatically, we can avoid the problem of transepidermal water loss or evaporation of water from the skin.

You can see how important our skin barrier is! Imagine if there’s a problem, the functions of that layer won’t work properly. As a result, the skin will become dry and various other skin problems will appear!

Recognize 7 Characteristics of a Damaged Skin Barrier

To be able to overcome and prevent it, it’s good to understand what are the characteristics that will appear when our skin barrier is damaged. Generally, they will appear:

Continued redness

Feels itchy

Coarse textured

Dry and dehydrated

Hyperpigmentation

Easily irritated or inflamed

Slow wound healing

If your skin already has these characteristics, there are many possible causes! For example, redness on the skin could be due to excessive exfoliation or skincare ingredients such as retinol and vitamin C. Skin conditions such as itching and infection can be due to a weakened skin barrier that allows bacteria to easily enter. While symptoms of hyperpigmentation (darkening of skin color) can occur because there has been damage to the top protective layer so that UV rays can penetrate.

There are so many possibilities! Each symptom does not always have the same cause, especially for people with sensitive skin or medical history such as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea. Therefore, it’s best to know the cause immediately by consulting an expert, Sereni-Trees!

9 Factors Causing Skin Barrier Weakening & Damage

There are so many factors that can cause damage to our skin barrier, both internal and external. But prevention is better than cure! That’s why Serenitree will spill the most common causes that we can avoid as soon as possible:

Overly Humid or Dry Environment

Skin needs a balance of moisture to stay healthy. An environment that is too humid can cause the skin to become susceptible to fungal infections. Conversely, an environment that is too dry can cause the skin to lose its moisture and become dry, scaly and itchy.

Allergens, Irritants, and Pollutants

These substances can trigger allergic reactions or irritation on the skin. Allergens like pollen or animal dander can cause rashes and itching. Irritants like detergents or industrial chemicals can damage the skin’s protective layer, while air pollutants can clog pores and accelerate skin aging.

Exposure to Too Much Sunlight

Excessive UV exposure can damage skin cells, cause burns, premature aging, and increase the risk of skin cancer. Sunlight can also worsen skin conditions such as melasma and rosacea.

Alkaline Detergents and Soaps

Products that are too alkaline can disrupt the skin’s natural acidic pH balance. This can cause dryness, irritation, and reduce the skin’s ability to fight bacteria and pathogens.

Exposure to Harsh Chemicals

Chemicals such as household cleaners, pesticides, or industrial solvents can damage the skin’s protective layer, causing contact dermatitis, irritation, and even chemical burns.

Over-Exfoliation or Washing Too Often

Over-exfoliation and frequent “cleansing” can strip the skin of its protective barrier and natural oils that are essential for maintaining moisture.

Steroids

Long-term use of steroid creams or ointments can thin the skin, cause stretch marks, skin discoloration, and increase the risk of skin infections. Therefore, pay attention to each skincare ingredient and consult first!

Psychological Stress

Stress is the source of all illness. Excess mental stress can have adverse effects on skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. Stress hormones like cortisol can increase oil production in the skin. As a result, acne and inflammation will be more common!

Genetic Factors

Some skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, have a strong genetic component. People with a family history of these conditions are more likely to develop them. Our genetics can also influence how our skin reacts to environmental factors and treatments.

Wow, that’s quite a lot! Now that you know this, will you be more diligent in maintaining healthy skin from the outside and inside? Remember Sereni-Trees, everything must be balanced. So, we have to take care of our skin from the outside (use of skincare, self-protection) as well as the inside (balanced diet, reducing stress).

Do this for a healthy and strong skin barrier!

Relax, Sereni-Trees! Every skin problem has a solution. Serenitree will give you some tips that you can try to protect and restore your skin barrier! The first step is to simplify our skincare routine. More products don’t necessarily mean better. It’s best to consult a professional about which products are essential and effective!

Second tip, pay attention to how you exfoliate according to your skin type. Sensitive skin and dark skin tones are generally better suited to mild chemical exfoliation. Some exfoliating products can also damage the skin barrier, so be careful before using!

The pH level of our skin also affects the health of the skin barrier! The delicate acid mantle of skin is around pH 4.7. However, the pH of some skincare products can range from 3.7 to 8.2. We recommend products with a pH between 4.0 and 5.0 to be on the safe side. Psst, pH balanced skin can protect us from skin conditions such as dermatitis, ichthyosis, acne, and Candida albicans infection!

Last but not least, we can try to choose bodycare and skincare products that contain glycerin or other natural ingredients. Not just anything, choose natural ingredients that attract water and bind it into the skin’s protective layer. For example, Vegetable Glycerin. In addition to moisturizing, this natural ingredient also functions to relieve inflammation/irritation, prevent infection, increase skin elasticity, and accelerate wound healing (Recommendation for products made from vegetable glycerin: Serenitree bodycare).

It’s so easy, isn’t it? The important point is, don’t forget to do these treatments and habits regularly! Hope this article helps!

Sereni-Trees, the use of skincare and makeup is important for all people regardless of race or religion. Skincare is considered as the foundation to build healthy skin and body. However, there are some taboos or recommendations in use according to each belief. For example, in the Muslim religion, there are some special methods and taboos that we need to adhere to. Generally, we know it as Wudu (ablution) friendly. Want to know more tips? Keep reading until the end!

Skincare & Makeup Usage for Muslims

Keeping our skin clean, tidy and healthy is an obligation for us! This also includes our hair, beard and even moustache area. This is because cleanliness is related to purity and faith. The use of makeup is still allowed, as long as you don’t overdo it, Sereni-Trees!

That being said, we still have to pay attention to the use of skincare products. Here are the things we should pay attention to in product selection:

The ingredients in skincare are medically safe and have BPOM certification (Has usage rules & has been tested)

Products that do not provide permanent changes

Does not contain haram ingredients (Example: alcohol or animal ingredients such as pork)

Reasonable use / not excessive

Use skincare as recommended/instructed by a dermatologist.

These are some of the outlines that we should follow in our skincare routine as Muslims. To be on the safe side, we can choose products with halal logos or Wudu friendly products such as Serenitree bodycare, the ingredients come from natural ingredients, free from harsh chemicals!

What is Wudu (ablution) friendly skincare?

Before performing a prayer, it is necessary to perform ablution first. Wudu itself is the process of cleaning certain parts of the body with water before performing prayer in Islam. This process is a valid requirement for prayer and certain other acts of worship.

In the process of performing ablution, we must wash our hands, rinse our mouth, clean our nose, wash our face, hands up to the elbows, wipe our head, ears, then we end by washing our feet. The aim is to remove any dirt or obstructions on the skin so that the water can touch the skin directly.

With that explanation, on to the concept of Wudu friendly skincare/makeup. Wudu friendly product category means that the product does NOT prevent the Wudu water from penetrating the skin. Generally, non-Wudu friendly skincare/makeup products includes:

Lipstick/lipcream: These makeup products are categorized as water barriers to penetrate the pores. Moreover, products that can stay on the lips for a long duration!

Nail polish: Including products that we should not use before Wudu because if we wash, it does not disappear immediately. It automatically becomes one of the obstacles too. But no worries, nowadays there are several brands that produce halal nail polish products. Make sure to do your research before buying!

Waterproof products: All waterproof skincare/makeup products must be cleaned because of their waterproof nature.

So, what are criterias of Wudu friendly products like? Relax, now there are so many innovations in beauty products that can make it easier for us! The characteristics will usually be light-textured, non-waterproof, fast-absorbing, and non-comedogenic. This category of beauty products are more prone to smudging and have lightweight formulations. There are no special ingredients that make the product stick, especially when exposed to water/sweat. Examples include: Powder textured makeup, eyebrow pencils, eyeliner, and non-waterproof eyeshadow. In addition, water-based options are also available.

If you still want to use makeup or waterproof products, it’s still okay. But pay attention before doing Wudu, you must clean it first!

Is it okay to reapply makeup/skincare after Wudu?

Re-application of makeup, especially skincare, after ablution is not only allowed, but encouraged! It’s very important for the health of our skin. The re-application process keeps our skin protected from free radical exposure and moisturized. Serenitree will spill the beans on how to reapply our makeup after ablution:

Cleansing the skin

An important first step is to cleanse your skin before using beauty products.

Use of facial mist

Especially in our country that is experiencing summer, facial mist can be one of the options to restore skin moisture quickly and effectively. In addition, it usually has a light texture and is easily absorbed.

Continue with moisturizer

Facial mist alone is not enough to keep your skin moisturized throughout the day! Hence, we recommend reapplying a light-textured moisturizer (Heavy-textured moisturizers should be used at night to avoid stickiness).

Reapply sunscreen

Last but not least, sunscreen must be re-applied! It will be a shield for UV rays that are harmful to our skin.

Cover with makeup (optional)

After all the skincare steps are complete, then it’s time to apply makeup. It’s good to apply it lightly, but it all depends on your activity needs.

More or less above are the steps you can follow after the ablution process. No need to reapply all products! Skincare products such as toner, essence, or serum can be absorbed directly into the skin. In conclusion, you can adjust these steps again with your daily needs!

Is Natural Skincare Wudu Friendly?

Natural skincare is on the rise, mainly because of its multiple benefits. Usually, this category of products contains natural ingredients, minimal chemicals, environmentally friendly, and safe for those with sensitive skin. But, is natural skincare definitely Wudu friendly? The answer is a resounding NO! Just because a skincare product is labeled natural, it doesn’t mean that we can use it for Wudu.

The reason is because it may contain some ingredients that can be water-blocking or non-halal processes/contents.
Therefore, we recommend that Sereni-Trees always check the ingredient label and consult an expert. It is even better if the skincare product has a halal label and is BPOM certified. For those of you who are confused about choosing halal and safe skincare, you can really check Serenitree bodycare! All products including hand cream, body lotion, body wash, and bar soap are made from natural ingredients and are HALAL. Come on, check it out!

There’s no denying that skin changes over time, even when it’s healthy! Our skin will automatically need different care. Why? As we age, our skin loses density, elasticity and the ability to regenerate itself. By using anti-aging products, we can help slow down and reduce these signs of aging.

When is the right time to use anti-aging products and what is the range? Stay tuned to find out!

Skin Aging Process

Symptoms include sagging, wrinkling, thinning and the appearance of dark spots. These changes will generally occur gradually as we age.

Biologically, the number of melanocytes (cells that contain pigment in the skin) will decrease. That’s what makes the skin look thinner and paler as we age. In addition, the connective tissue that affects skin elasticity also decreases, resulting in sagging skin.

Lastly, oil production by the sebaceous glands also decreases with age. While men experience a decline in oil production after the age of 80, women usually experience a gradual decline after menopause. This leads to difficulty in keeping the skin moisturised. Therefore, older people usually have more dry and itchy skin.

But all of this is a natural process, Sereni-Trees! Everyone will definitely experience aging. There are several factors that can accelerate skin aging such as genetics, lifestyle, diet, and environment. So, make sure to follow your habits, use anti-aging products, and live the right lifestyle to avoid the risk of premature aging (aging faster than you should).

7 Symptoms of aging Skin

What are the symptoms of skin aging that are commonly seen? There are approximately 7 symptoms that we can notice, for example:

Wrinkles

This can happen due to the decrease in elasticity and collagen in the skin. We can expect to see wrinkles in the areas of the face, neck and hands that are frequently moved.

Fine lines

Unlike wrinkles, these lines are smaller and finer than crow’s feet. They usually appear around the eyes and mouth.

Dark spots

These signs of aging will be visible on areas that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the hands and face.

Dry skin

As you age, your skin’s natural oil production decreases, so one of the symptoms of skin aging is dry skin.

Loose skin

The skin will slowly sag due to loss of elasticity. This causes the skin to be unable to maintain its firmness and elasticity, especially in areas that are exposed to gravity, such as the neck and chin.

Loss of skin density

This can be due to the volume of skin tissue that disappears and results in the skin looking flat.

Color change

The skin may become paler, duller, or pinker.

Those are some of the signs that our skin is aging. Considering that, what can we do as a way to delay or prevent premature aging? One of them is to start using anti-aging products!

The Right Age to Use Anti Aging Products

There is actually no precise guideline on when we should use anti-aging products. This is because aging is highly influenced by various factors and the skin condition and health of each individual. However, experts recommend introducing an anti-aging product routine in your 20s and 30s or when the signs of aging are visible. Again, it depends on each skin condition. It is therefore best to consult a dermatologist for more accurate results.

Another tip when introducing anti-aging products to the skin is moderation, make sure to do it gradually so that our skin gets used to it. Also, focus on areas that are frequently exposed to the sun such as the face and neck, as well as areas with aging symptoms such as fine lines and so on.

Remember Sereni-Trees, the most important thing is consistency and choosing the right product. Make sure that the ingredients of the product are safe for skin health. Trust me, if we do it regularly, the results will definitely show!

Tips for Using Anti Aging Products, Do it at Night

Premature aging can occur due to genetic factors, but it is mostly affected by external circumstances such as lifestyle, hygiene, diet, skincare use, sun exposure and pollution. That’s why as early as possible we should start taking care of our skin health and introduce anti-aging products.

Firstly, we should use our anti-aging skincare routine at night. This is because at night our body is still working to repair and renew skin cells. To support this process, the skin needs support from skincare. Another reason is also because the skin will absorb the skincare products faster, so it will be more effective!

At night, our skin dries out faster than usual. Not to worry! You can choose anti-aging products with hyaluronic acid or natural vegetable glycerin alternatives (found in Serenitree’s body wash and hand cream) to bind water and keep your skin moisturised.

Furthermore, to help regenerate skin cells and stimulate collagen production, we can choose retinol or the natural alternative curcumin extract (found in Serenitree’s white turmeric soap bar). Guaranteed, your skin will retain its elasticity and suppleness!

Finally, we can equip our skin with protection against free radicals or UV rays with natural vitamin c and niacinamide (found in Serenitree’s moringa soap bar).

Other steps we should take in our anti-aging regime include diligent double cleansing, follow up with moisturiser, regular exfoliation (1-2 times a week), serum application (high concentration), toner (balances pH), eye cream, and last but not least, sunscreen (daily, reapply every 2 hours)!

So easy, right, Sereni-Trees? Let’s follow these tips! Don’t forget to combine it with regular exercise, a balanced diet (less sugar and oil), enough sleep, avoiding excessive stress and other bad habits! Hope this helps!

Bathing is not just for cleansing your body! You can get other benefits such as relaxing your mind or relieving muscle tension. One of the ways can be from “bubble bath”. For this particular method, Sereni-Trees will need a bathtub as her bathing medium! To know more about the function of bubble bath, tips and how to use it, make sure to read this article until the end!

What is the Function of Bubble Bath?

Bathing can be a means of me-time or self-care in the midst of a busy day. Similar to bubble bath, some of its functions for the body include:

Cleanse & detox skin

Of course, we don’t forget the main function of bathing, which is to cleanse the skin thoroughly! Dead skin cells, dirt, or sebum can be removed by taking a bubble bath. It’s like we’re detoxing and removing all the impurities from our skin.

Reduces muscle tension

Bubble baths generally use warm water to achieve their maximum function. The mixture of warm water and bubbles can relieve muscle tension, improve blood circulation, and automatically relieve soreness! In addition, smooth blood circulation can make our skin more glowing and healthy!

Reduces stress levels & improves mood

As we have discussed, bubble bath also has a function for self-care. The scent of the soap coupled with the warm water and bubbles from the soap can make our body and mind more relaxed. We can also do other activities while soaking such as reading a book or watching our favourite shows. It’s quite fun to spend the day after work/school, isn’t it?

Nourish the skin

Usually, specialised soaps for bubble baths come with skincare ingredients, such as essential oils or vitamin E. So, besides cleansing, this activity can provide nourishment for our skin. Make sure to choose a soap without harsh chemicals such as SLS, phthalates, and the like!

Improving sleep quality

For Sereni-Trees who have trouble sleeping, you can try bubble bath as one of the solutions. This is because our body will feel warm afterwards so it will be easier to feel sleepy. Plus, the production of melatonin, the drowsiness-inducing hormone, increases!

It turns out that even though we only bathe with bubbles, we get a lot of positive benefits for our bodies! Must try this, especially for those of you or your children who are often too lazy to bathe.

Serenitree Bubble Bath Tips

Some of you might not have done bubble bath before so you might not know where to start. Don’t worry, Serenitree will provide a step-by-step guide for you to successfully make the foam/bubbles! All you have to do is follow the steps below:

Use warm water

The first step is to fill the bathtub with enough water. Generally, to achieve maximum benefits, we need to use warm temperature water. This also ensures that your body remains comfortable while soaking. Make sure it’s not too hot or cold, test it with your hands before soaking!

Choose the right product

To maximise the foam, we can choose a special bubble bath soap. Just pour enough according to the instructions and stir by hand to create foam. Make sure not to use too much product to avoid foam overload! You can also add other supporting products such as essential oils (as aromatherapy) or bath salt (relieves muscle tension, moisturises skin, exfoliates skin).

Pay attention to the duration of the bath

Although the bubble bath process is healthy for the body, we must make sure not to soak for too long! If your skin is exposed to warm water for too long, it can lose its natural oils. As a reference, you should only do this activity for 15-30 minutes maximum. An additional tip, bubble bath is more effective at night before bed.

Follow up with body lotion

This activity has the function of moisturising the skin, but we need to lock in the moisture with a body lotion afterwards. This is also to avoid dry skin from the warm water, especially if Sereni-Trees soak for too long! Make sure to choose a lotion with natural ingredients like Serenitree’s body lotion which is complete with olive oil, shea butter, and sunflower oil as natural moisturisers.

Look at how easy the steps are! This is a must-try for those of you who have a bathtub at home. If not, you can choose another alternative by using a large bucket/tub or do it when you are on a staycation/holiday in a hotel room with a bathtub.

Can I use Serenitree Body Wash for Bubble Bath?

Many of you may have sensitive skin, especially children, pregnant women, and mothers. Of course, you can’t just choose a soap product for a bubble bath! We have to make sure that the soap for bubble bath is free from ingredients such as alcohol and detergents (sodium laureth sulphate and cocami-dopropyl betaine). Also, we should also be aware that bubble bath soaps with too strong a scent can also be harmful to our health! What’s more, the soak lasts about 15-30 minutes, so if the ingredients are harmful or if we have allergies, the adverse effects are even greater!

The solution is to bubble bath using regular soap or Serenitree body wash (calming variant with soothing lavender essential oil). Granted, it won’t produce as much foam or smell as good, but the effect, experience and benefits are almost the same! You can also still add other products such as essential oils or bath salts to increase its effectiveness. The steps are the same, just pour in enough product and stir the water until it foams up.

Therefore, Sereni-Trees, don’t worry, because there is always a safe alternative for all skincare products and routines. We must not forget that the most important thing is to choose the safe solution. Don’t just want to follow the trend, we force the use or process of skincare that might harm us! Always remember, safety comes first!

We all want to have healthy skin! The increasing public awareness about the importance of skincare can be seen from the rise of skincare products these days. Aside from aesthetic needs and confidence, healthy skin is important in protecting our body from pollutions. But what does healthy skin actually look like? If we look at the stigma of society, glowing or white skin could be the standard of healthy skin. But is that really the case? Instead of being curious, let’s see what are the criteria for healthy skin!

Elastic & Supple Skin

Supple skin is one of the criteria for healthy skin! This means it has a high level of elasticity. You can test by pulling or pressing on the skin, and if it returns to its original shape, your skin is considered supple. This indicates the density and strength of collagen and elastin tissues.

Collagen is the main structural protein that provides density and strength. When collagen is regular and sufficient, the skin will feel supple and elastic. Meanwhile, elastin provides elasticity, allowing it to return to its original position after being deformed.

Both of these can be affected by nutrition from skincare and food consumption (vitamin C, vitamin E, sufficient water), regular exercise, and bad habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol.

Moist & Well Hydrated

These two are the most important indicators of skin health! Moisture refers to the condition when the skin has sufficient water content. Moist skin feels fresh and not dry. This can be measured by the amount of water trapped in the epidermis layer of the skin. Factors that can affect moisture include: weather, hygiene, and the use of skincare products (especially moisturisers).

Whereas, well-hydrated means that the skin is not only moisturised, but also able to retain its moisture content for a longer period of time. To maintain this ability, we need to use moisturiser according to our skin type, hydrate our body from within, and protect our skin from UV rays with sunscreen.

Even Skin Tone

Healthy skin doesn’t mean your skin colour has to be fair/white! The important point is the evenness of skin tone where colour pigments are uniformly distributed across the skin surface. This means free from skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation.

What affects the evenness of skin tone? It could be the production of melanin, the main colour pigment in the skin, or external factors such as unprotected UV exposure and friction on the skin (causing skin discolouration). So, make sure to use sunscreen and not wear too tight clothes to avoid this.

Notes: Skin discolouration can also occur due to medical issues, consult a professional for a proper diagnosis!

Free From Infection Or Inflammation

Healthy skin means it has no significant damage and is free from infection or inflammation such as acne, cuts, redness, or other signs of inflammation. The outermost layer of skin (epidermis), which serves as the primary barrier, must remain intact to protect the body from the penetration of pathogens (disease-causing microorganisms).

Of course, there are many things that can trigger skin infections/inflammation such as medical conditions, excessive oil production, trauma to the skin, or skincare allergies. This is why it’s important for us to be careful when choosing skincare or following certain trends. Make sure you know your skin well!

Small & Unclogged Pores

In general, healthy skin pores are small and barely visible! Enlarged pores are actually at risk of accumulating a lot of dirt or excess oil production. This condition can be triggered by genetics, hormonal imbalances, sun damage, and more.

To avoid this, we must cleanse our skin diligently, choose non-comedogenic skincare, use moisturiser regularly, and protect from pollution/UV with sunscreen.

Feels Comfortable & Glowing

Last but not least, healthy skin can make us more comfortable and confident. Comfortable here means no pulling sensation, heat, burning, dryness, or itching that can interfere with our comfort in activities.

In addition, glowing skin is also an indicator that our skin is getting enough nutrients. But we have to remember, it doesn’t just depend on our skincare. Make sure to pay attention to your lifestyle and nutritional intake too!

Avoid myths about skin health!

There are so many myths or beliefs to achieve healthy skin that are misleading. Therefore, Serenitree will spill some of the things that are actually wrong. Remember, the less we know, the more we risk taking the wrong steps in skincare!

The higher the SPF of a sunscreen, the better the product.

People often misunderstand that the SPF number (at least 15) on a sunscreen means how long you will be protected from the sun. We can choose the SPF that suits us depending on our activities and how often we are exposed to the sun. For example, those who live in hot areas and are often travelling will need a higher SPF than those who live in cool areas and are often indoors.

So, the high SPF on the sunscreen is not a measure of whether the product is good or not!

Long showers mean clearer skin

This myth is also often circulated! Not a few who think with the frequency of bathing long and often then the skin will be clean and healthy. In fact, too long a shower can make the skin dry because the skin’s natural oils can be lost. Ideally, we are recommended to shower 2-3 times a day for a maximum of 10-15 minutes. Don’t forget to avoid soap with chemicals that are too harsh because it also causes dry skin and even itching after bathing. Recommended gentle soap, Serenitree Body Wash.

At the end of the day, it’s important to do your research before committing to a skincare regime, especially one that goes viral! Not all skincare should be tried and will be suitable for our skin type or problem. Don’t forget to be a smart skincare user!

Of course, oily skin types are prone to various skin problems, one of the most common being acne and blackheads. It is also difficult to apply make-up because the skin will produce more oil than its normal level. What can we do to solve this problem? The solution is to incorporate natural astringents into our skincare routine. Want to know what it is and how? Stay tuned, Sereni-Trees!

Getting to know Astringent

Similar to toners, astringents are water-based skincare products that cleanse impurities from the skin’s pores. Although not all, most astringent products contain alcohol content such as Isopropyl. On the other hand, there are always natural alternatives that act as natural astringents. However, the use of these products is more suitable for acne-prone or oily skin. Why?

Other benefits of astringents themselves include:

Shrinks pores

Astringents can reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, giving the skin a smoother and firmer appearance.

Control excess oil

This product can help reduce excess oil production on the skin, reduce excess shine, and prevent breakouts.

Removing residual dirt

Astringents are suitable for removing the remnants of dirt, oil, and dust that remain after washing your face.

Reduces inflammation

Some astringents contain anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredients that help reduce inflammation in the skin, such as in acne or sensitive skin.

We can see from the benefits, it’s more suitable for oily or acne-prone skin! If those of us with sensitive/dry skin use astringents frequently, our skin may become even drier and irritated! That’s why if you are interested in trying it, you should choose a product that suits your skin type, problems, and natural ingredients with minimal synthetic chemicals. It’s even better to consult your needs first!

How is Astringent Different from Toner?

Although similar in texture, there are some differences between these two skincare products. Firstly, the composition of the ingredients. Toners often use glycerin and glycolic ingredients while astringents are water-based with a higher content of synthetic or natural alcohol (natural astringents) than toners. Therefore, we can conclude from their formulations that toners are more open to all skin types and astringents are more suitable for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

While astringents have several functions, their main purpose is to control oil and shrink pores. Meanwhile, toners have different specifications (depending on each product), ranging from balancing the skin’s pH, providing light hydration, and cleansing the skin.

Which one to choose, toner or astringent? It all comes down to your skin type and concerns, Sereni-Trees! But generally for those with oily/acne-prone skin, astringents are more effective and those with sensitive or dry skin can use toners. Also make sure when choosing both products, avoid too harsh chemicals. It’s best to choose the natural ingredient option to minimise the risk!

Natural Astringent Alternatives as a Solution

The power of natural ingredients is endless! We don’t have to sacrifice our skin health by looking for effective products with high alcohol content. Simply choose products with natural substitutes sourced from plant extracts, fruits, or organic ingredients such as:

Green Tea

Green tea is rich in antioxidants such as catechins that help fight free radicals and combat the signs of ageing. In addition, the tannin content in green tea provides astringent properties. Tannins can shrink pores, control excess oil production, and provide a firming effect on the skin. Acne development will also be reduced with the cleansing antiseptic properties of green tea!

Lemon Water

The ascorbic acid content in lemons is what acts like a natural astringent that can tighten the skin and shrink pores. As a bonus, lemon is also a natural ingredient that can brighten and even out skin tone.

Chamomile

Active substances such as bisabolol have anti-inflammatory properties and can soothe inflamed skin. Meanwhile, flavonoids have astringent properties that are responsible for shrinking pores. Additionally, chamomile can also provide a refreshing effect and protect the skin from pollution.

Rose Water

The phenyl ethyl alcohol and tannin content of rose water is like a natural astringent! This is useful for providing a firming effect. Rose water can also cleanse, moisturise, and give a refreshing effect afterwards].

Witch Hazel

One of the most popular natural ingredients as a natural astringent is plant-derived witch hazel. Witch hazel is rich in antioxidant compounds such as tannins and polyphenols that are suitable for treating acne-prone skin or preventing acne/infection (anti-bacterial properties).

The 5 natural ingredients above are popular options for replacing synthetic astringent products. But don’t forget that even though natural ingredients are less risky, make sure your skin isn’t sensitive or allergic before using them!

Tips for Using Astringent Ala Serenitree

Interested in starting to use astringents in your skincare routine? Don’t make the wrong move! Serenitree will spill the right steps to use this skincare. Avoid using it incorrectly that can lead to skin damage!

Always start with clean skin

Clean skin makes it easier for any skincare to be absorbed properly. Make sure to use a cleanser according to your skin type, remove all makeup, and gently pat dry.

Application of astringent using cotton wool

This is to minimise contamination due to direct contact with hands as well as to remove dirt on the face. Try to avoid sensitive areas such as the lips or near the eyes.

Let it set before continuing to apply moisturiser

Allow the product to absorb well and then start using other skincare products such as moisturiser. As we all know, astringents can dry out your face, so always apply moisturiser afterwards!

On another note, we should avoid using retinol or alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). It’s best to consult beforehand so that the active ingredients don’t collide with each other and react negatively.

For Serenitree Squad who are curious about natural astringents, you can first try using Serenitree’s Anti Aging Hand Cream variant with Green Tea Extract. Regular use can certainly result in healthy nails and moisturised and youthful hand skin, interesting right?

Maybe we just started to recognize skincare in our teenage or adult years, but did you know that skincare is also important for children? Not just for the sake of glowing, skincare is instrumental in keeping the skin healthy. Especially for babies and children whose skin is much more sensitive. Even so, children’s skin also has different phases according to their age. So, don’t get it wrong and check out this kids skincare guide carefully!

The Importance of Starting Skincare Early

The use of skincare in children certainly has many benefits, including maintaining moisture, health, and protecting the skin from free radicals. Unkempt skin can certainly invite various health problems, right? It can also help children avoid problems in their teenage years such as the emergence of acne problems. This is the main purpose of using skincare for children.

But there’s one more thing that’s equally important! By introducing children to the world of skincare from an early age, we are teaching them to understand hygiene and self-care. This way, the child will get used to maintaining cleanliness even as an adult. It’s like planting good habits early, moms!

It doesn’t need to be complicated, we just need to teach simple things like routine bathing and hair washing. Over time, we can understand the child’s skin condition well and provide appropriate skin care as well. So easy, right?

Well, to make things easier, Serenitree will provide a special guide to children’s skincare based on age. For the record, this is basic skincare! If you have other skin problems, you can consult a professional and adjust your skincare routine accordingly!

Age 0-5 Years

Children at this age have thin and vulnerable skin that is sensitive to problems such as irritation, redness, or rashes. Therefore, we should use skincare products with special formulations for babies/children that are free from harsh chemicals or dyes/fragrances. Generally, the skincare required includes: Soap, moisturizer, baby oil and sunscreen (baby/child formulation).

In addition to skincare, we also need to pay attention to clothing materials. Try to choose clothes made from cotton or other soft materials. Then to avoid rashes, make sure that skin fold areas, such as the neck, elbow folds, or knee folds, remain dry and clean.

Ages 5-11

In this age category, a child’s skin is developing and will start to show certain characteristics such as increased oil production. However, your skincare routine doesn’t need to be extensive! Keep it simple, use a facial cleanser (gentle or child-specific), moisturizer, sunscreen, soap and Serenitree lotion (safe for children aged 3 & 7 years and above).

We need to remember that consistency and moderation are key. No need to use too many products too often. This moment is also the right time for us to teach children to start the habit of taking care of their skin. Don’t forget, moms, that skin care is should also be accompanied by a healthy diet!

11-17 years old

At this age, children are going through hormonal changes. These hormonal changes will cause many things including changes in skin texture, acne, blackheads, and more. It is not uncommon in this phase to have a lot of acne problems! Therefore, the right skincare routine is facial wash (according to skin type), moisturizer, sunscreen, Serenitree soap & lotion, and start exfoliating at the age of 14 and above.

This exfoliation process will help regenerate skin cells, acne problems, and make the skin evenly bright. However, make sure the exfoliating products you use don’t contain harsh ingredients! Just do it 1-2 times a week or as instructed.

Additional tips: Choose non-comedogenic skincare for those with oily skin and use products with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to treat acne.

17 years old and above

Even though they are getting older, their skin still needs attention and will always undergo changes. Especially if your child has been traveling a lot, wearing makeup and exposed to pollution. Their skincare routine will be more complex, such as facial wash/cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen, Serenitree soap & lotion, face mask, vitamin C, exfoliation routine, and retinol usage (starting from 20s, to fight premature aging). Make sure to double cleanse, especially if wearing makeup.

The variety of skin problems that can occur due to internal and external factors may also require other skincare treatments. Make sure to research, consult and pay close attention!

Serenitree, Natural Skincare Safe for Kids

Natural products tend to be gentler and without harsh chemicals, hence safer for children. But, that doesn’t mean we don’t need to do a patch test before use. We need to understand our child’s skin condition, what allergies and how sensitive their skin is. They could be allergic to natural ingredients. This is why Serenitree will never get tired of reminding us how important it is to choose skincare, even natural ones.

For those who are curious and want to try Serenitree’s gentle soaps and lotions, you should definitely check out the “brightening” variant (safe for 7 years and above) with a fresh scent and the “calming” variant (safe for 3 years and above) with a calming lavender scent. Even moms/parents can use it at the same time because Serenitree products are safe for children, pregnant women, breastfeeding, and people with sensitive skin. One product for all age ranges!

Of course, it’s not just about the “Natural” label, Serenitree’s treatments contain natural ingredients that can solve skin problems in children! Some of these include:

Calendula Extract: Avoids irritation, prickly heat, or diaper rash as it is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial.

Sweet Almond Oil: Works as a moisturizer while protecting the skin from free radicals, especially suitable for children with sensitive skin.

Vegetable Glycerin: Relieves irritation and accelerates wound healing.

Lavender Essential Oil: The scent of this essential oil can help children stay calm and relaxed during the skincare routine.

And there are many more natural benefits of Serenitree products! Instead of being curious, let’s experience the benefits right away!

In conclusion, skincare is indeed very important for all ages because it is closely related to one’s health and well-being. Instead of being late, let’s instill early skin care habits in children safely. Hopefully this article is useful for you!

Healthy and glowing skin is everyone’s dream! But to achieve that, we need process, effort and dedication. Every day we have to protect ourselves from free radicals and UV rays, not forgetting the routine of various skincare products. One more important point, this treatment does not only apply from the outside of the body! Have Sereni-Trees ever heard, “we are what we eat”? That’s right, foods for glowing skin do exist!

Along with the right skincare products, incorporating certain foods into our daily diet can have a tremendous impact on our skin. Among the various food options, there are four that are popular for their ability to give our skin a natural glow: nuts, fatty fish, brightly colored fruits and vegetables, and avocados. Let’s explore together how these foods can be the key to achieving naturally glowing and healthy skin.

Nuts

Nuts are not only delicious as a snack, but they are also a source of essential nutrients that can provide great benefits to our skin health. 3 types of nuts as glowing skin foods include:

Almonds: Rich in vitamin E, minerals such as magnesium, and antioxidants. Vitamin E helps protect the skin from UV damage and free radicals. The antioxidants in almonds also help keep the skin moisturized.

Walnuts: Contains omega-3, selenium, and zinc. Omega-3 can reduce inflammation in the skin, while selenium and zinc play a role in the regeneration of skin cells.

Cashews: Contains copper, iron, and vitamin E. Copper aids in the production of collagen, which is important for skin elasticity, while iron can treat redness and dryness.

Don’t like eating nuts? No worries! We can consume peanuts by roasting them first, making peanut butter or even as a topping for salad and yogurt mixes. How interesting is that! But for those who are allergic to peanuts, don’t consume it, there are still many other options!

Fatty Fish

In the world of nutrition, we often think of fat as the enemy. In fact, not all fats have negative effects on the body. In fact, these healthy fats can help us avoid the risk of autoimmune diseases, psoriasis, and lupus. This is because the fat in fish contains nutrients such as:

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Reduce inflammation in the skin and maintain its moisture and elasticity.

Proteins: Essential for the formation of healthy skin tissue and the repair of skin cells.

Vitamin D: Helps regenerate skin cells and maintain skin strength.

Popular types of fish for glowing skin foods include: salmon, sardines, and trout. The way to serve these fish is relatively easy and varied, ranging from being eaten raw (pay attention to the cleanliness, type and quality of the fish to be safer), grilled or boiled. Sounds yummy right? Let’s try it first, there are many easy and delicious recipes that we can find on the internet!

Brightly Colored Fruits & Vegetables

The key to skincare doesn’t always lie in expensive products. As it turns out, the secret to glowing skin is often hidden in various types of brightly colored fruits and vegetables that we often encounter everyday. Bright colors for glowing skin! Some examples include:

Carrots: Contains beta-carotene, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Beta-carotene can stimulate the production of new skin cells, vitamin A repairs damaged skin tissue, while vitamin C increases collagen production.

Tomatoes: Rich in lycopene, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Lycopene is an antioxidant that can protect the skin from UV damage, while vitamin K reduces inflammation in the skin.

Spinach: Contains beta-carotene, vitamin E, and iron. The beta-carotene in spinach helps keep the skin moisturized, vitamin E as an antioxidant protects the skin, and iron helps oxygen flow to the skin cells.

Blueberries: Rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin C and anthocyanins. These antioxidants help fight free radicals, relieve skin inflammation, and slow down skin aging.

Who would have thought that fruits and vegetables have such amazing benefits! Imagine combining these superfoods with your skincare routine.

For those who don’t like vegetables, don’t worry. We can also consume them in the form of smoothies or cooked first. We can even turn them into a low fat snack!

Avocado

Avocados are well-known for their positive skincare benefits! This also applies when we consume this fruit. Regular consumption will provide our body with various nutrients such as:

Healthy Fats: Avocados contain healthy fats, such as monounsaturated fatty acids. These are what will give our skin the hydration it needs to stay elastic!

Vitamin E: Rich in vitamin E, which acts as a natural antioxidant to protect the skin from free radical damage, helps retain moisture, and supports the regeneration process of skin cells.

Carotenoids: Contains lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids that can provide protection to the skin from sun damage and help maintain skin radiance.

Fiber: The fiber content of avocados helps in detoxifying the body and promoting healthy skin from within.

Even more interesting, we can also make homemade face and hair masks from avocados. It really proves how useful avocados are in the world of beauty. What are you waiting for, let’s feel the benefits now! (Note: avocado extract content is also found in the anti-aging variant of Serenitree Hand Cream).

Healthy Body, Auto Glowing Skin

From nuts rich in vitamin E, to fatty fish packed with omega-3s, we’ve explored the top foods for glowing skin. The combination of nutrients they contain can provide the skin with natural protection from damage, keep it moisturized, and improve skin brightness and elasticity.

However, eating these foods is not just for beautiful skin, but also for overall health. It’s important to remember that skin beauty comes not only from the outside, but also from what we consume. So automatically, if we are diligent in maintaining a balanced and healthy diet, and pay attention to the nutrients we feed our bodies, we can definitely achieve healthy and naturally glowing skin. Don’t forget that and strengthen your commitment to invest in your health as early as possible, Sereni-Trees!

We can’t deny that the amount of information spread across various social media platforms has made people more concerned and interested in taking care of skin health. However, amidst the fast-growing skincare trend, there are often myths that accompany the information about skincare products. These myths can be confusing and make people doubt the truth behind the rumors. Sometimes information can be useful or harmful to our health!

Therefore, it is important for us to dig deeper, distinguishing between myths and facts. This way, we can make smarter and more informed decisions when it comes to taking care of our skin. Be a wise skincare user!

The more expensive the product, the better the quality

High prices are not necessarily a benchmark for quality. Some expensive products may have the same ingredients as more affordable products.

Often the price of a product is related to the use of exclusive ingredients, claims of high effectiveness or the “branding” of the product. However, the quality of a product is not always proportional to its price. Sometimes, products with similar ingredients or the same quality can also be found at a more affordable price. For example, local products or natural alternatives!

Oily Skin Doesn’t Need Moisturizer

Oily skin also needs moisture. Neglecting to moisturize can actually cause the skin to produce more oil in an effort to hydrate the skin.

As a tip, you can choose a light-textured moisturizer or one that contains non-comedogenic ingredients. This type of moisturizer can hydrate your skin without clogging your pores or increasing oil production.

All Natural Ingredients Safe for All Skin Types

Natural ingredients are less likely to cause negative side effects. However, that doesn’t mean that every individual will be compatible with every natural skincare! Some people may experience allergic reactions or irritation to certain natural ingredients.

Despite the amazing benefits for the skin, such as aloe vera or coconut oil, it is still possible that some people can have an allergic reaction or irritation to these ingredients. Therefore, it’s important to do a patch test or consult a dermatologist if you have any doubts regarding natural ingredients in skincare products. This applies to Serenitree products too!

Acne Only Appears in Teenagers

Acne doesn’t just happen to teenagers. Adults can too!

Many factors can trigger acne in adults, including stress, poor sleep patterns, hormonal changes due to pregnancy or menstrual cycles, and the use of unsuitable skincare products.

Skincare should be used every day

Not all skincare products should be used every day.

Skin has different needs. Some skincare products, such as exfoliants or masks, don’t need to be used every day! In fact, overuse can disrupt the balance, protective function, and irritate the skin. So, always pay attention to the usage instructions on the product and adjust it to your needs and skin condition.

Washing Your Face More Helps Treat Acne

Washing your face is a part of maintaining good hygiene. But too much can dry out the skin and trigger excess oil production.

Over-washing your face can strip your skin of the natural oils that your skin needs to maintain moisture and health. This can trigger oil production leading to clogged pores and worsened acne!

SPF is Only Needed in Sunny Weather

UV rays are present even when the weather is cloudy or rainy. We need SPF every day to protect our skin from sun damage.

UV exposure doesn’t only occur during sunny weather. The rays can penetrate through clouds and cause damage to the skin. Using SPF every day, even when it’s cloudy or raining, whether indoors or outdoors, is essential to protect your skin from UV damage. Otherwise, expect premature aging or even the risk of skin cancer!

Retinol is Only for Middle-aged People

Retinol is not only suitable for middle-aged people! Then what age is ideal?

While retinol does address the signs of aging, its use can benefit a wide range of age groups, especially those in their 20s. Additionally, many young people also use retinol to control acne, improve skin texture, and stimulate skin cell regeneration. But we must remember that the use of retinol must also be appropriate, not too often as it will cause irritation.

The More Skincare Products, the Better for Skin

Perhaps using more than one product to address skin concerns is a good thing.

That being said, too many skincare products with different active ingredients can increase the risk of skin irritation. Especially if we use from several brands. It’s better to just focus on the products that suit your skin’s needs. Try not to use too many products at the same time.

Makeup is the Main Cause of Acne

Using makeup is not the main factor causing acne.

The truth is, acne is not caused by the makeup itself, but rather the lack of properly removing makeup. Not cleansing makeup thoroughly can cause a buildup of dirt, oil, and dead skin cells that trigger acne. It’s important to double cleanse!

Skin gets better without sun exposure

It’s true, overexposure to UV rays, especially without protection, can be very harmful to the skin.

The skin still needs sun exposure as sunlight helps in the formation of vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D is essential for overall skin and body health. Try to sunbathe for about 15-20 minutes around 10 am or 4 pm.

Those are the 10 most common myths in the skincare world! Sereni-Trees, do you believe in any of them? It’s important that we stay “educated” so that we don’t follow risky habits. This can be detrimental, especially for people who are new to skincare trends! So, let’s share these tips with your bestie and stay healthy together!
